Empowering Women: The 5 TV Moms who Helped

[ad_1]

MOM.  Can you even think of another word that has the power to invoke more emotion, passion, respect and admiration?  Moms seem to have a special power – a superwoman power of sort.  Who else can do the job of a CEO, housekeeper, cook, psychologist, janitor and taxi driver all in one day? Maya Angelou said in her 1969 memoir, “To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power.” A hurricane.  Now that’s some power.  Forbes.com (http://onforb.es/PYuQYD) compiled a list of the powerful moms from around the globe. It’s an interesting read, but if you think about it there are also a few moms from pop culture that have helped blaze the trail to empower women as well.

  1. Claire Huxtable

    The Cosby Show

A wife, mother of 5 and successful attorney, Claire has it all – successful career, happy family and, lest we forget, style galore.  Whether she’s at the office, in the kitchen, or on the couch with her beloved Cliff, Claire can definitely rock those shoulder pads like nobody’s business.  With a smile, a laugh and an occasional dance here-and-there, Claire proves that you can be tough and take care of business, and still make time to have a little fun along the way.

  2. Roseanne Conner

Somewhat loud and convincingly bossy, Roseanne has a way about her that is undeniably her own.  Roseanne is a wife and mother of 3 in a working-class family struggling just to make it.  Determined to take care of her family, Roseanne has worked on an assembly line, in a hair salon and as a waitress.  She ultimately achieved her dream as a small-business owner.  Although by most standards Roseanne is considered a bit rough-around-the-edges, she is loyal to her family and she will ultimately do whatever it takes to ensure their needs are met.

  3. Morticia Addams

    The Addams Family

Thin, pail and dressed in black, Morticia is at first glance a bit spooky and somewhat ghoulish.  But if you look beyond the creepiness of her first impression, you’ll find a woman who deeply adores her family.  Morticia fiercely defends her family values (albeit strange to outsiders) and she stands up for what she believes.  This wife and mother of 3 clearly demonstrates that “stepford wives” conformity isn’t the end-all, be-all.

  4. Caroline Ingalls

    Little House on the Prairie

Caroline is the true essence of the original pioneer woman.  At home she’s a wife and mother of 8, but away from home she’s also a teacher and a cook.  Extremely loyal to her family, Caroline embodies a fabulous combination of strength and gentleness showing us that it’s completely possible to be both tough and kind at the same time.

  5. Reba Hart

Reba is a single mom who holds her three children, son-in-law, and granddaughter all near and dear to her heart. She’s a fierce fighter.  She’s worked as a receptionist, pizza delivery person and a substitute teacher.  Reba finally found her niche as a real estate agent.  Through it all, Reba shows that no matter what your circumstances are, you can always find something to smile about – and maybe, just maybe, you may even laugh about it too.

There you have it – 5 TV moms with their own style of superwoman powers.  Admittedly, some may be a bit unconventional.  Nonetheless, these moms get the job done and they have empowered our tomorrows.
